Thread Check Inc. Technical Series 101 How To Use Thread Plug Gages briefly describes the basics of go and no go thread gaging.
The go thread plug gage should engage the internal threaded part with very little force used. The engagement should be smooth. There is no specification regarding torque or pounds of pressure for using thread plug gages.

The no go thread plug should not enter the part more than 3 turns although in practice it is advisable to limit the amount of turns to 1 ½ - 2 turns max. The user just simply counts turns.

DEEREMEYER1 : Alcohol is going to minimize friction? That's a new one since alcohol leaves parts "clean and dry". And why does a "no-go" GAUGE (I tend to be leery of "experts" who don't know that "gage" is "gauge" misspelled) go into an "incorrect" female thread at ALL much less "no more than 3 turns" other than that's about the limit for getting "close" metric male fasteners into imperial female threads and vice versa using some "common" metric/imperial fasteners where "pitch" of the imperial thread and "class of fit" of the metric threads are "close" but not "identical"?

That's the only "common" situation I can see occurring where a "no-go gauge" would go so far into an "incorrect" thread and then "jam". And one that's not going to be "indicated" by using a "go/no-go gauge" but could easily be the result of cutting threads using a "single-point cutter" on a lathe with "thread cutting capability". Which is a very commonly "recommended" method of "thread cutting" online as far as "professionals" trying to "educate" so-called "hobbyists" or even "student machinists". Of course the only "cut threads" you're going to commonly find on male "fasteners" these days are mainly the cheap, crappy threads on "ready rod" threaded stock purchased by the "stick".

And of course "job shop" machine work performed by "old-timers" and their "students" who apparently are still back in the "good old days" and unaware that rolled threads long-ago replace "cut threads" and even where "cut threads" are still necessary "dies" are the preferred method for producing them since dies cut "correct" threads "progressively" and make "incorrect" threads all but impossible when properly selected and used. They also make "go/no-go gauges" and "thread wires" for measuring "pitch diameter" unnecessary. Which of course they should never be necessary anyway if threads are properly "cut" since if you start with the proper OD of "stock" and cut correct threads using the proper tools and process there's no way to end up with "out of spec" threads.

Nor is "thread pitch" a "specification" you're going to find published for general "thread inspection" since "major thread diameter" and "pitch" and "thread depth" of the male threads can all be measured with "simple" and "common" tools like a micrometer and a set of quality thread pitch gauges which don't measure "thread pitch" but show "thread depth". If the "pitch" is incorrect the thread pitch gauge won't "mate" with the threads and if the thread pitch gauge mates COMPLETELY with the threads and the "points" of the pitch gauge bottom in the "grooves" of the thread and vice versa AND the major thread diameter is "on" the "pitch diameter" is going to be "on" as well.

Threads also are never anywhere near "100% engagement" or they'd never "fit" together anyway since "male threads" are NOT the "mirror image" of "female threads". Which is why even with several threads of engagement you still get "wobble" and "endplay" and there's always some "slack" in threaded fasteners until "torqued" and the male fastener gets "stretched". Precision machine threads in a micrometer at 40 TPI are no different. They're just much smaller and "tension" due to the "feel" and slight "torque" put on the spindle by someone who knows you don't use a "ratchet" to "measure" with a micrometer take up the "slop" and produce the proper reading under "tension" when the micrometer is properly calibrated.

Checking FEMALE THREADS with a "go/no-go gauge" and MALE THREADS with "thread wires" to measure "pitch diameter" does nothing to ensure that the two are properly made to fit EACH OTHER CORRECTLY and are unknown tools and "inspection methods" in the "real world" where we use taps and dies to cut threads in "emergencies" where "single-point cutting" of threads is impractical or impossible and we rely on the CUTTING TOOLS being made properly and TO SPEC and start with "stock" the correct OD and use simple tools like thread pitch gauges (crucial for tap/die selection when "extending" existing threads) and micrometers and the "go/no-go gauge" of attempting to screw the MALE THREADS into the FEMALE THREADS to determine if everything is "in spec". That's the only "inspection" that really matters and the only one that proves anything.

게이지란 기계제품의 치수·모양 등의 기준이 되는 것, 또 그것을 검사하는 데 사용되는 것의 총칭이다. 각종 게이지에 대하여 알아봅시다.

와이어 게이지 : 와이어(철사)나 가는 드릴 등의 지름을 재는 데 사용하는 게이지. 원판 주위에 따라 와이어 게이지의 치수를 갖는 게이지로 만들어진 것.
드릴 게이지 : 드릴의 치수, 드릴 선단 날끝각 등을 검사하는 데 사용하는 게이지이다. 하나의 얇은 강판에 작은 치수의 구멍에서부터 큰 치수의 구멍까지 여러 가지 치수의 구멍이 뚫어져 있다.
피치 게이지 : 강판 가장자리에 규정된 피치 나사산의 형상을 한 홈을 만든 게이지. 각종 피치의 것을 겹쳐 1세트(set)로 한다. 나사 부품의 비틀림에 피치 게이지를 대고 적합한 것으로부터 나사의 피치를 알기 위하여 사용한다.
틈새 게이지 : 두께 3mm 이하, 길이 300mm 이하의 단체 틈새 게이지(리프)를 9~26개 조합한 틈새 게이지(조합 틈새 게이지)이며, 리프에는 각각 두께가 표시되어 있다.
반지름 게이지 : 기계가공 부품에 있는 둥근 모양을 검사하는 윤곽 게이지. 반지름을 검사한다는 뜻에서 R게이지라고도 한다. 여러 가지 곡률 반지름에 맞춘 둥근 모양의 반대 모양으로 된 얇은 강철판을 한 벌로 하고, 이것을 부품에 대었을 때 빛이 통하지 않으면 합격으로 한다.

기계도사 : 저도 확인해보니 오류가 있는것 같습니다. 11.5mm 가 아니고 8mm가 맞습니다. 그냥 구멍에 꼽아보고 딱 맞게 꼽히면 그 치수를 읽어주면 됩니다. 쉽죠? ㅎㅎㅎ ^^
